    More Moore Rock Art

In May I was in the Moore area searching for some particular pictographs, but I wasn't able to find them. After I got home that day I did some more looking around in Google Earth and found an even more likely place to look, but it wasn't until yesterday that I got a chance to go looking there. A friend and I hiked to that spot and found the rock art right where I was hoping to find it.

On our way back to the truck, we saw from a distance what looked like more petroglyphs, but once we got close we realized they were modern drill holes in a cliff face, some of them with the drill cores left in the holes. Very strange. We also found a faint snake petroglyph.

We drove a short distance after returning to the vehicle and went in search of another petroglyph panel that was fairly easy to find based on photos that are floating around out there on the web. It was a short but productive trip.

    Nice pics!
Interested in how you used Google Earth to look for the Rock Art....

    thanks

I'm not udink... but I use google earth all the time to look for rock art and ruins. I look for pictures people have publicly linked into google earth and note the location.

Something else you can also do these days. Any pictures taken with a smartphone with GPS will imprint the waypoint into the picture info (unless the feature has been intentionally disabled).

I'd be interested in the techniques others use to find rock art and ruins from their computer.

Hah, I guess I didn't explain that at all. I knew the rock art was somewhere near Moore, and the description on this page mentions that "ATV tracks and a large turnaround area are located within 30' or so of the panel", and that really narrowed it down a lot. All I had to do was look around in Google Earth, and I only found a couple of spots that matched the description.
