Canyon Fire: Rope Rope Rope: 8mm – pretty skinny! 9mm – too fat! This has been the story since canyoneering-specific ropes first appeared. Not anymore!

The New Imlay Canyon Gear Canyon Fire rope is the first rope designed for Colorado Plateau canyoneering. Since the sheath is what counts, we added material there to make a “sheath-heavy” rope - 60% sheath versus the norm for static ropes of 50%. It gives both more to hold onto and increased cut-resistance, thus greater durability; at a slightly higher carry weight than 8mm ropes.

The materials are 100% polyester inside and out, so the sheath and core work together, and both are hydrophobic. Tightly woven for long life, it mellows slightly with the first couple of rappels to settle into a state of firm knotability. The Canyon Fire is 100% static resulting in no bounce, reduced sawing across edges, and easier use in canyons.

We also made it pretty. Available in three fiery colorways (Red with a bit of Yellow, Red/Yellow and Yellow with a bit of Red) - (sorry, no absolute choice).

• Weight: 3 lb 13.6 oz per 100 feet
• Elongation at 390 lbF: 1.2%
• Standard cut lengths: 120 feet, 200 feet, 300 feet, 610 foot spools. Custom cut lengths cost 10% more.

Canyonero:

Canyonero! - new for 2011
We applied the Sheath-Heavy design that worked so well for the Canyon Fire to our 9mm rope, to get a somewhat bigger, somewhat stouter and better-handling new rope, Canyonero! It is firmly woven for longest life, and uses 100% polyester to minimize water absorption. A nice handling, long-lasting static rope that works great for canyoneering, especially for heavier canyoneers and for Class C canyons with harsh rock, as in Ouray, Colorado.


The Canyonero is longer lasting (than the 8mm and 8.3mm) and easier for everyone to use, for just a little more weight. We also gave it a few more core strands, so it has a rated strength of 5000 lbs as required by the BSA and other youth programs.

Available in pre-cut lengths of 120, 200, 300 and 600 feet. Ordering by-the-foot is 10% more expensive than ordering the pre-cut lengths.

Weight - 1905 grams or 4 lb 3.2 oz per hundred feet.
Breaking Strength: 5000 lbs.
