I haven't seen anyone talking about this on here, but it looks like Iridium has finally launched a competitor to Spot:

It also looks like DeLorme has discontinued its association with Spot.

This thing looks pretty nice, but the pricing is a little high.

But it does 2-way messaging with the DeLorme GPS or an Android phone, and it can also be used as a stand-alone device. It also has message receipt confirmation.

Not bad. I hope the price comes down.
