I posted up a message concerning where to buy Canyoneering Gear. It got deleted - by mistake? Was that against the rules? Where are the rules?

probably because your post about buying canyoneering gear was unsolicited and therefore somewhat spammish. and also, it was obviously attacking the fact that there was a post on here broadcasting a new "bogley store" in partnership with amazon. that post is now also gone. my guess is it is because the owners are trying out ways to incorporate more amazon purchases from bogley, in order to help offset their own costs. seems reasonable to me.
i expect there will be a reasonable explanation why the post was gone. no need to worry...

What Carpey said........
If Tom REALLY believe's his post belongs in this forum he can PM me and I will make it visable again.... but I believe Tom posted the thread to make a point, which I hope was understood by those it was intended for.
Thanks for playing.

i imagine it is some sort of automated feature in the forum... just like the whole section of outdoor gear deals you can buy here. or when you type gopro and it automatically makes a link to amazon to buy it.
in other words, it's not a big deal. nor is it a big deal that the post got deleted from Tom.

I really shouldn't respond to this, but it gave me a chuckle.
80% of Bogley's traffic comes from search engines. In other words the "few thousand members" are only 20% of the load on the servers. Most are not registering. If you look at the number of people (at the bottom of the screen) that are on the site as guests compared to registered users. Yep, the math works out. The site has also been moved 5 times to larger more powerful servers to handle the traffic.
Nice armchair quarterbacking...good for a morning laugh.
