Cold (snow) weather for Northern Utah this Weekend

Just received this Alert from the Weather Channel for Northern Utah:

... SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE WEATHER LATER THIS WEEK...

AFTER A PROLONGED PERIOD OF ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES... A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE WEATHER PATTERN IS FORECAST FOR THE MIDDLE TO LATTER PORTION OF THE WEEK... AS A COLD AND POWERFUL PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM MOVES INTO THE GREAT BASIN. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL OF THE SEASON TO THE HIGHER TERRAIN... AND DROP DAYTIME HIGHS ACROSS MOST VALLEYS 30 DEGREES OR MORE FROM THE TEMPERATURES OF THE PAST WEEK OR SO.

THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE GREAT BASIN WEDNESDAY... WITH STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS DEVELOPING ACROSS MUCH OF UTAH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AHEAD OF THE ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT. THIS FRONT LOOKS TO PUSH INTO WESTERN UTAH WEDNESDAY NIGHT... THEN ADVANCE EAST THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF UTAH AND FAR SOUTHWEST WYOMING THURSDAY MORNING. WIDESPREAD VALLEY RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE REGION IN THE WAKE OF THIS FRONT THROUGH AT LEAST THURSDAY... AND LIKELY CONTINUING INTO FRIDAY ACROSS NORTHERN UTAH. SNOW LEVELS MAY FALL AS LOW AS 6000 FEET LATE THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY.

IN ADDITION TO THE PRECIPITATION... MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST FOR THE LATTER HALF OF THE WEEK. HIGH TEMPERATURES ALONG THE WASATCH FRONT WILL STRUGGLE TO REACH THE LOW 50S THURSDAY AND FRIDAY... WITH DAYTIME HIGHS ONLY REACHING THE LOW 60S ACROSS UTAHS DIXIE AND THE LAKE POWELL AREA. THIS IS A GOOD 20 TO 25 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE... AND 30 DEGREES BELOW WHAT HAS BEEN OBSERVED OVER THE PAST WEEK.
Better get in one last summit before snow hits this week!

Yup, 9-13" expected up the Cottonwoods on Thursday. Hard to believe since I have been in sandals and flips for the last week. But it is coming. Time to get out the gear, we are gonna be riding soon!

It looks like it might snow at our house as well.

No snow totals are listed for the mountains, but it will snow:

Utah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. Please take care of it and keep the remaining wild areas in pristine condition. The world will be a better place if you do.

Awesome! News like this gets me stoked for winter. I think we are going to have a repeat performance from La Nina this year. Not the snow totals, but I am thinking the cottonwoods will at least get 600". If it wants to put down another 783" I am not going to complain mind you. But the long range forecast shows us warming up a lot more next spring than we did this year. So I am guessing we get our spring cycle then summer will return in a big way.

I know the summer folks on here hate it when I get all excited about snow, but I am telling you, I am getting stoked to snowboard again!

Maybe you should learn to ski or snowboard. You probably would lose the hate for the snow. Just sayin..............

It looks like the prediction is for a total of 15-26" (tonight through Friday) of snow in the high Wasatch:

    Only 5-9" for our mountains:
