Lewis Peak from Pineview, Skyline Trail, Solo

I was having a tough time deciding which route to take to Lewis Peak, either via the North Ogden Divide which would have been much shorter and less of a climb, or from Pineview Reservoir. I had the whole day blocked out for bagging this peak since it's been a goal for a few years, so I just decided to take my time and go the long route.

For me this was a difficult ride. I knew it would be tough but it seemed like the peak just kept staying out there in the distance. I guess I imagined the trail would head more of a Northward route, but it was pretty much West. I didn't realize how LARGE the mountain was spanning from East to West. The view here from Ogden makes it look like a North to South type of mountain. So I guess that threw me off a bit when I kept heading towards that damned western side, and the trail doesn't "truly" start heading North unless you head to the North Ogden Divide from the fork.

But once I hit that fork, what a view! Fortunately it was a beautiful clear day.

There are a bunch of differing stats on the mileage and climb, but MyTracks was reading about 10 miles from the trailhead to the peak, and about 3100 feet in elevation gain. Granted, I went back and forth a couple of times to get some footage but I don't think it amounted to more than a couple hundred yards of repeated trail coverage.

Here's the route I took, my phone battery died on the way down at 17 miles, about 3 miles from the trailhead.

Yeah those swimmers in the parking lot might have been training for XTERRA taking place the next day. Even the Timex team van showed up for practice.

Great photos. I rode that last year, it's a real grind getting up the first few miles. The views are worth the climb!

Dang, makes this roadie want to break out the MB and hit the trails. I used to hike all those when I lived here in the 90s but my bad knees now cannot take the descents on foot.
