Epic 30 Minutes of Photography in Big Cottonwood Canyon

I was planning to go mountain biking at Solitude while my wife ran but on the way up the clouds were low and the light was amazing so I decided to drop her off and come back down to the meadow by Mill D under Kessler Peak. I started shooting the trees and fog and about 5 minutes into it I noticed a moose about 30 feet away to my left. She was pretty dark so I got a few shots with her then went back to shooting the fog. I had heard a few noises behind me for a few minutes and eventually realized that a calf was still on the other side of the road. I gave them some room and actually stopped a car on the road so it could cross.

I got some decent shots of the moose with Kessler Peak as they crossed the creek and went off to the South. I love an amazing photo session about as much as I love a good powder day. Both have me whooping like a schoolgirl and I still made it back to pick up my wife on time. Save the bike ride for another time.

this is amazing. any chance you could tone down the sky just a bit to bring back the detail in the clouds?

Yeah, but I'm not the best post processor. Any thoughts about how you'd do it? This was shot in RAW and edited in Lightroom3.

Adjust it in Lightroom using the Curves midway down the adjustment bar on the right (well, that's how it is on the PC version). You could also try the "Recovery" option towards the top. That will bring down the brightness in the sky a bit. Do you have Photoshop? I think it would be easier there... but I really haven't played with Lightroom much.

But anyways... I love these shots. Love the B&W. Great job.
