Echo Canyon - Zion National Park

The family and I picked up Hank Moon for a entertaining trip down Echo Canyon on Sunday. It was great to do a canyon with Hank again, it had been too long since our last trip together. A video of the trip is below.

Hank and Sierra rescued a pretty cool snake from the cold dark section of slot. He wasn't doing that great when we found him but they carried him out of the slot to a nice sunny spot where he could warm up.

We entered the slot higher than I had before and the first thing I discovered is 5 minutes of extra trail walking gets you 30 minutes more of awesome slot including two additional rappels and a deep semi-keeper pothole. The pothole is in the first 20 seconds of video so if you haven't seen it before you are entering the canyon too low.

I have updated my Echo Canyon beta and maps to show the higher entrance.

We expected the water in the slot to be putrid and smelly, but it was actually clear and clean. The water level right now is probably the lowest I have experienced it before. Only one swimmer and the rest is waist deep wading. The water was extremely cold, I expect the evaporation cools the water.

    Enjoy the video

Cool video, however; my feelings are hurt that you were in my neck of the woods and you didn't invite me. Biotch.
Agreed that the higher entrance into Echo is awesome, but it's hard to do that extra 10 minutes of hiking when you can see the cool dark slot below! Looks like a good time.
