If you attached a thin cord to one end you could set the length to lay right on the edge. All but the last person could pull it up, hook in, and guide it back into position as they rappel.

This is kind of an experiment, and yes, it would be great to figure out ways for it to work well.

Imlay Hose-type Rope Groove Prevention Device

Four feet of garden hose. Slit up the side, if you want.

We've been talking for awhile about how to prevent rope grooves when doing canyons. Part of the problem is that the rock in a lot of canyons is pretty darn soft.But this could help.

It's an experiment, really. We've tried it a bit, now it's your turn. As I see it, each person will likely need their own hose, since once they are down, the hose will likely slide down the rope to the bottom. Yes, some pieces will be lost and become canyon trash. Yes, it might be awkward, inconvenient, slow, tiresome, dirty, heavy, ... etc. Sure, but it seems like we really otta be doing something. Let's give this a try. Report back on how it works, please.

Might protect your rope, too.

Brand new clean garden hose, 4 feet of it. Slit if you want - I think the slit will make it a lot easier to use.

Weight: 6 ounces.

I would suggest a spiral cut along the length of the hose instead of a straight cut. I think it would keep the rope from jumping out of the hose as the rope moves around during use.
