Car Seat in Extended Cab Tacoma
Anyone have any luck putting car seats into extended cab trucks...specifically Tacomas? I have a 99 Taco Extended Cab that I really don't want to get rid of but it looks like a challenge to get the car seat in there safely. I know there are a bunch of Tacoma owners here and thought some might have feedback. It's not looking good per other forum threads I found.

Check with your county health department. Most will have an injury prevention coordinator who is a car seat specialist that can not only answer your questions but will also help you install it correctly.
How can you have your non-dairy pudding substitute if you don't eat your wok-braised tofu?

I asked my wife about it (she's the injury prevention coordinator for Utah county) and she said that it may depend on the year of your Tacoma and the type of car seat being used. You need to have 80% of the car seat on the back bench. 20% can hang off the seat.

They fit fine in my 95 T-100, but it was quite a bit bigger then a Taco of the same year.

by extended cab - do you mean the short "jump seat" cab, or a true second set of seats? I ask because I owned a '07 Access Cab - rear opening doors with the jump seat - and I had to upgrade to the full double cab for a decent fit with my daughter in the back. The biggest issue is that the Rear-Facing car seats take up mucho room - much more than forward facing seats.

Thanks for the comments. I'll look into the Health Dept.
It is a jump seat version (seats flip down) so not sounding good.

The instructions that came with the base for our granddaughters seat say NOT to use it sideways, as in a jumpseat. The seat is a Graco SnugRide.

Just installed the seat and by my math, 75% is on the seat, 25% sticking off. Doesn't look good for me and my truck but I'll check with the health dept. Also, looking in to ones with shallower bases so I can meet the requirement (and keep the kid safe of course).
Thanks all.

time to get a new vehicle if you are even questioning if it is safe or not. Not worth the risk in my opinion. Sale the truck and then you will never have any doubts if you were to get into a wreck.
Two wheels are better than four, keep the rubber side down.
