    beartooth mountains

we had good weather for a week, then storms moved in and we bailed. being static in a tent waiting for storms to roll thru is not something i am capable of. and having no trail system to make travel safe in the rain inhibited plans. after the 1st 8 miles on trail along the west rosebud it was all off trail up-n-down, to-n-from, lake basins and high plateaus. but for frenco lake basin, bushwhacking was mostly non-existent. open understory , but steep slopes. and of course the obligatory scree-n-talus fields. also had to modify agenda when terrain proved to be much more inhospitable than maps n' google earth seemed to indicate. many thanks to mark for being so willing and flexible for this kind of trip. wish i knew more people w/ his sense of adventure and abilities. i had a great time.

in valley between mt wood and mt hague we saw a grizzly print

Finally drove through that area this summer after a long, long time and thought to myself "I bet there's some great backpacking here". Thanks for sharing the great photos!
