Uinta Mountains, 2009 Lakes Country Trail
One of my favorite areas in the Uintas. It's busy, but there's plenty of solitude if you don't mind camping off the beaten path. My father first took me to the area in the 1970s, and he first went in the 50s. Not much has changed: a few dams removed, less readily available firewood...but it's hard to find a bigger bang for your buck than this basin. This trip we hit all the regular lakes, Long, Long Pond, Island, and Duck, but the real gems are those without names, and those with names that I'm not about to tell! I'm always surprised at how great the fishing is in so many of the Uinta's "fishless" lakes.
