Michael Bay used old clips for Transformers 3

Transformers 3 aka Transformers: Dark of the Moon : Best opening-day gross of 2011

There are rumors that Michael Bay may have recycled some special effects from a previous film of his for Transformers 3.

Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon is full of giant robots who spend the final hour of the film laying waste to the city of Chicago. More importantly for the bean counters, it’s full of expensive CGI creations and pyrotechnics whose every second on-screen sends the budget soaring. The Internet is buzzing with rumors that famed director Michael Bay may have recycled some special effects footage from a previous film of his in the Transformers 3.
Transformers 3 aka Transformers: Dark of the Moon : Best opening-day gross of 2011

On its opening day Wednesday, Transformers 3 grossed $37.3million, making it the best opening-day gross of 2011.
One of the axles smacks into the middle of a black SUV and pulverizes it. ForTransformers: Dark of the Moon, the axle is replaced by a Decepticon who does the damage while trying to run through traffic. Everything other than the Decepticon in the several-second slow motion shot is borrowed. The second instance of borrowing from The Island for Transformers 3 takes place a couple seconds later where the camera is at road level and shows debris flying. It’s less obvious but a virtually untouched sharing of footage.
Because Transformers: Dark of the Moon was shot partially in 3D and presented entirely in 3D, it’s assumed that footage from The Island was converted to 3D in post production.
Bay may have reused clips from his 2005 film, The Island, in the film titled Transformers 3

According to the IB Times, Transformers 3 has earned $98 million since its release on Tuesday. In contrast, The Island, which starred Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson, was substantially less successful.
The scenes are not entirely identical but one can tell the identical screen captures.
Michael Bay : Fan of image recycling ?

The high-speed car chase scene shows a high degree of similarity through several sequences, in terms of car placement, damage from impacts and flying debris, including a tire.
In Transformers 3, the large robots crash into the cars. They might have been digitally superimposed through CGI (computer generated imagery) on the earlier footage in post processing.
Do you think it’s a big deal that Michael Bay recycled footage from his own movie for Transformers: Dark of the Moon? Watch the comparison below and share your thoughts in the comments section. We think it’s fine given the context of the action and obvious need to save cash and use it elsewhere. This isn’t the first instance of footage recycling in Hollywood and it surely won’t be the last.
