Mule Ear Trail in North Fork, UT

Thanks to @MtnBkr last fall for showing us this one up in North Fork, we thought about hitting Skyline but changed our minds at the last minute, @Garbanzo and I.

The Mule Trails consist of the Mule Ear and the Mule Shoe trails, making roughly a 5.5 loop I believe.

This is a gorgeous ride, green as green on the backside of Ben Lomond.

By the way, the North Ogden Divide is currently CLOSED. Sorry, I don't have an ETA on that.

    I'll steal Gene's map again

    Nicely done.

There were lots of cars in the parking lot at the top of North Ogden Pass (Saturday morning) who drove up there from the west (around 2 road closed signs). My guess is that the construction, and the reason for the North Ogden Pass closure is entirely on the Ogden Valley side, but we didn't go down to look. We rode up the dirt road/singletrack to the top.

Somebody I know pretty well said that they didn't know it was closed until they got all the way up to North Ogden and decided to try their luck Wednesday night because it was getting late, bypassing the signs (which say "Trail Access Only", assuming this means it's OK to drive to the top parking lot for the trail head up there, but not through to the Valley) ...and they were able to successfully navigate their way over to the Valley side. It was a bit sketchy though. There were concrete barriers on the other side but they were able to move a smaller sign out of the way and drive around.

The pavement is torn out for a couple hundred yards where they were working on "stuff".

This person went home via the Ogden Canyon after the ride, and does NOT recommend driving around the barricades to navigate the North Ogden Divide.

That being said, I want to get back up there and ride this loop again soon. It's gorgeous up there.

Oh yeah ----- THE BUGS ARE OUT!!!! Bring repellant. It was sheer punishment for those that chose to walk up certain hills rather than ride because their conditioning sucks and always will.
