Canyon BOOTY
Took a group down Birch Hollow yesterday and found some pretty good canyon booty. Four nice oval screw gate carabiners. Whoever went down the day before us obviously didnt trust the steel quicklinks and so they added the screwgates to the anchors. They also cut out the anchor from the 2nd rappel, and tripled the webbing around the boulder with bright orange webbing. All in all, I got a pocket full of trash, 20 feet of orange webbing, a fat 3" diameter rapide, and four screwgates.
I always joke about never having to buy webbing, because with all the rookies, there is always too much in the canyons. Same with R/QL's. Wrong frame of mind?

Booty or Trash? I consider all excess/ratty sling material as being trash.
Biners are suspect. I'd only leave one of mine if I had dropped it previously from a considerable height. Or one I found in dubious circumstances, or had found/hadn't purchased myself.
Booty?
Pitons
water bottles
cig lighters
novels
towels
shoes
camera
hats
shirts
stuff sacks
And once, back in junior high, I came across a girl who had been accidentally left behind, and now she's been my wife for 28 years.

We did Birch Hollow last weekend. There was no webbing on R1, so we rigged some. Other than that we left nothing.
lets see as far as booty...
Found camera, ATC, and carbiner in a big dried pothole in Behunin. Other than that not to much.
...besides just finding stuff, have you guys ever left or lost anything?
I forgot a sweet brand-new knife on a rock at the bottom of R1 in Englestead. It was only after the next rappel, once we pulled ropes, that I noticed hahaha!
both of these were in 2009

It's been at least 10 years since I last bought webbing or quick-links. I keep my stash supplied with crap I remove from the canyons. My only bitch is the noobs who insist on adding a third and fourth layer to the anchor always use those big heavy quick-links rated to hold up a couple dump trucks. I prefer the small 1/4" quick links... That and noob's choice of webbing colors usually sucks.
My best canyon for booty used to be Mystery. At the Mystery Springs rappal I'd always check the pothole mid-rappel behind the boulder and the one at the bottom and usually find something cool. I've pulled a dozen biners, a couple figure 8's, one ATC and a very cool pocket knife out of those potholes, along with a bunch of trash.

Interesting that you found this in Birch. We did it on Monday and that stuff wasn't there. We moved webbing from a horizontal tree log wedged in the creek bed to the boulder so that the pull would be shorter. Everything else was just rap rings or quick links. Changes quickly it seems!

You have been waiting for weeks to drum up the couage to strike at me and this is what you bring? A cheap shot at a trip with my family? You need to go back to the science lab and draw something else up before I pull your pants down and take you over my knee in front of the lady's.
And a little FYI.... The trade routes are by far the best place to collect booty.

There is a post on Bogley somewhere recently about the guy who went back to pick up his webbing at not Tierdrop after he had gone thru and it sounds like you have it?
Went and found it.
