Since this is your first post, maybe a little canyoneering history on yourself woulds help.

Telling people how to contact you other than through this forum might be useful too.

Do you like long walks on the beach?

The only other thing I see you'll likely have a problem with is Echo, not likely to be open by then............

The rest sounds like a fun trip, I might take you up on something if I knew you could rescue me in a canyon, I'm a newb......

and as you can see from my recent picture in my boat, we'll have to stop frequently for snacks.

    Oldno7, Good Point!
So as mentioned briefly in my profile, I’ve been mountain and rock climbing for over 35 years. Seems like that’s a “black” mark in the Canyoneering world, but let me assure you that I’m not your typical, new age, sport climber. Having traversed and ascended numerous glaciated peaks, I long ago learned technics associated with contingency and rescuing someone from the depths of a crevasse (read slot canyons here). And having climbed several multi-day “big walls” I’ve found that I typically ascended 1000s more feet of fixed rope than your typical Canyoneer. With several decades of traditional rock climbing under my belt I would categorize my rope, gear, and system usage as being safe and sound. I’ve experienced climbing’s growing pains through years of piton usage, then rock conservation via the use of “passive” pro, on to the limited usage of bolts (read “run-out”), and thence to today’s unforgivable expansion of fixed anchors which threaten our continued access to public lands
Having grown up in So Cal I really didn’t have much of a choice but to gravitate towards rock climbing, but it’s not my favorite. Getting out into wild landscapes is my passion. To that extent, while previous long standing partners stubbornly stuck to the crag, I ventured out and soloed many a desert peak, some 4th, and some 5th class. Invariably, approaches or descents sometimes lead me into some marvelous canyons. While I had been previously focused on landscapes visible from the heights, over the last decade or so I have been increasingly drawn to unique canyon sculpture and challenges.
And to get back to your point, I’ve only done a few canyons. In no particular order:
    So Cal
    Bailey 3 A III
Little Santa Anita 3 C III
    Mildred Falls 4 A II
    Vivian Creek 3 B II
    Kitchen Creek 3 C II

    NV
    Key Hole (Vegas environs) 3 A I

    Zion
Boundary up MIA 3 C III
Englestead up Orderville 4 B III

I understand that there can be multiple reasons why people don’t want to go into a canyon with an older guy with a mountaineering background and limited canyoneering experience. Yet I hope some of you will consider joining me just for the fun of it!

ratogonia: Hopefully I've just now enabled this site's contact feature. If not, this site will not allow me to post my email address here as I'm such a noob to this forum. Still, I look forward to the conversation any which way it goes!

Oldno7: Permit office granted me a permit for Echo, so I don't understand why they would do that if it's closed? Or perhaps I should clarify that I'm referring to "Middle Echo?"

I think you should try harder. The contact system through Bogley is lame.

you can contact me at: noobie at wannacanyon dot com

ratagonia, yeah, i appreciate the contact info, i tried the same tactic of inserting an email address into message as you did, and I got bounced including an error message. And i'm not going to "spam" the site just to generate what ever number of messages they deem appropriate to gain access to bogley's permissions list to add a 'link" within my messages. Understand the partial filter, but don't want to subject subscribers to inanine tdoughty ramblings any more than necesarry....

Hopefully all interested can contact me via information available on my Bogley profile. Otherwise, we keep it open via this forum's front page....

I'll be in the area that week but I've already got a group including someone from Australia that I'm showing around. mix of classics and aggressive canyons. I have a couple days on 2,3,4

I have a feeling your next post may be spamable.

akabennett , following your lead I'm at tdoughtyjr at gmail dot com. and yeah, that's why i posted the invite, particularly if you're available this coming weekend, and then also thru the 5th. It seems soloing canyons is frowned upon, but with my extensive experience with the roped and unroped soloing of many, many technical climbs, that's where i'm headed on these initial permits uunless you or someone else is willing to take the plunge...:-)

Over the edge and far away!!!!

Subjecting other to inane ramblings are just part of the Bogley Community experience, as I think you will soon learn. Hakuna Matata on that!

Oh, and my REAL contact info is CanyoneeringUSA at Gmail dot com.

check this out for Vegas Key Hole, not to be confused with Zion Key Hole:

    http://www.bluugnome.com/cyn_route/e...yhole-cyn.aspx

    Wide variety of anchors.

With my limited experience and excessive weight, the first rap off a stack of cobble had me second guessing the whole adventure. Particularly since I sat on the conglomerate to assure my wife's descent, and then, when tugging on the anchor before my own rap, the whole thing shook and rattled!

Bottom line, a nice morning's distraction from Red Rock climbing and a chastising casino rehabilitation from the night before.

Just saying....Got a spot open on my permit if you're in the area.
I'm in South Campground site #84.

Keyhole looks pretty cool for a desert canyon. I might have to go check that out when the weather cools this fall. would be a fun one during a rain storm get a little class C action going on. by the wear of the rock it looks like it gets a lot of weather out there during monsoon season.
