Day 4.2 Wildhorse Canyon Pictographs

[FONT=Garamond][SIZE=3]At the parking area above the wash leading to Wildhorse Canyon, the wind was shaking the car and the gusts were even stronger than on the Black Dragon slickrock, but it was a short hike and at least the sun was shining. Once in the wash, the wind moderated quite a bit, and as we made the turn into Wildhorse Canyon, it seemed to lessen even more. We found the narrows with standing water, so we bypassed up the slickrock to the left and found a nice easy ramp back to the canyon floor a little ways past the twisted narrows section and continued upcanyon, past some beautiful patterns in the sandstone. As the canyon opens up, the alcove with the pictographs is visible ahead and to the right, part way up the canyon wall. It is fairly easy to work your way up the slickrock to the right to the base of the cliff, then across beneath the overhang until you find the pictographs. There is a bit of exposure, so take care if you come with kids. I thought these were pretty neat; surprisingly small figures but quite dark and clear. I
