Thread: Send me somewhere different.

    Send me somewhere different.

Ok I have done the National Park thing in Utah and am now looking for something different. I will be car camping with my eight year old son. If it is different, no crowds, interesting, and not necessarily in UT (it can be in UT) I will consider it.

    Thanks.

I second Cedar Mesa. There are also lots of places to car camp in the Uintas. You'll probably have to wait a month or so to be able to access them though.

Dinosaur. Great car camping in remote locations like the campgrounds at Echo Park, Rainbow Park, Lodore. Deerlodge is probably underwater at the moment. If you are looking for a short backpack to an overnight campsite with your family the Ely Creek backcountry campsite is perfect, it is located in a spectacular canyon and located on a large trout stream. (Jones Creek). Ely Creek is a small creek that joins Jones near the campsite. If you go up Ely creek 100 yards there is a small waterfall which can be dammed just above it be sitting in the creek...which is alot of fun to release the water on people below.
The quarry is still closed, unfortunately, but will open in October. Meanwhile, the temp. visitor center has fossils to see and the rangers can tell you where to find some in-situ fossils about 1/2 mile hike away.
