    New guy in Salt Lake

Hey, just found this site and i have already read a bunch of good trip reports and advice. I have only been doing technical canyons since the fall but i have been hiking, backpacking, and camping my whole life. I have taken the university of Utah classes and have done several personal trips and i just really love doing canyons so i am looking forward to all the ones i have to do.

You've had a few month to get settled in Salt Lake.
July is hot for the hiking - backpacking aspect, however, the Colorado River is WORLD famous and streams through Moab valley and IS STILL high, remarkably.
I recommend getting down for some rafting or even a one day sport boat with NAVTEC through Cataract Canyon. Cataract is Grand Canyon style rapids -- more affordable, more available, fits everyone's calendar as it can be shorter.

If you need Moab info, i'd be happy to lend my local expertise.
