6th Edition is out and should be showing up on bookstore shelves in the very near future. I received a copy today but have only quickly thumbed through it so far. It looks like the typical MK book, which means a tremendous amount of information packed into as small of space as possible. I haven't had time yet to tell what is new and improved over the 5th edition.

I have the 4th edition of this book and it is excellent. I got it off amazon really cheap. Might have to pic up this newer version though...

They fotos show him carefully checking out a ruin, yet they should show him RUNNING by the ruin, given the times he uses. At the time he was also recomending against the usage of water filters, as HE never used them. As you can tell, I am not a fan of his, or any guide book I guess. If you use a guide book, you are just going to see all sorts of other people who read the same book. I try to avoid seeing people when I backpack, and I love the feeling of discovery. Use the money that you would spend on his book and get a good water filter. Much better value. Get out, explore, get lost and crawl through the cactus. My apologies for the preaching.

Guidebooks are just that in my view, one of many tools to research places to go. I never rely on them but use them to focus on areas.
