    AT&T is acquiring T-Mobile

    AT&T is acquiring T-Mobile (USA)

    Benefits for AT&T users

The release said that AT&T and T-Mobile USA customers "will see service improvements - including improved voice quality - as a result of additional spectrum, increased cell tower density and broader network infrastructure," noting that as soon as the deal closes, AT&T "will immediately gain cell sites equivalent to what would have taken on average five years to build without the transaction, and double that in some markets."

Absorbing T-Mobile "will increase AT&T’s network density by approximately 30 percent in some of its most populated areas, while avoiding the need to construct additional cell towers. This transaction will increase spectrum efficiency to increase capacity and output, which not only improves service, but is also the best way to ensure competitive prices and services in a market where demand is extremely high and spectrum is in short supply," the release says.

By bolstering its existing GSM, UMTS and HSPA+ networks, AT&T will be able to better focus on future LTE capacity, rather than struggling to get its existing network to meet today's demand. While T-Mobile operates its 3G UMTS network on different frequencies than AT&T, its basic 2G GSM network is identical. AT&T can also use the networks and towers T-Mobile operates to strengthen its own.

T-Mobile adds 33.7 million subscribers to AT&T's network of of about 95.5 million, creating a total of about 130 million users, and becoming the largest American carrier. The deal will also expand Apple's iPhone to three of what were the top four US carriers, as Apple has already brought it to Verizon earlier this year.

What is funny to me about this, is T-Mobile's newest ad:

"My heart shall cry out for Moab..." Isaiah 15:5

Yep, those ads will be pulled ASAP.

Does this by any chance mean service will improve? T-mobile sucks. I don't even know why they have 4G the 3G doesn't even work. I can't wait until August when I can switch to Verizon. They seem to have better service down here.

I hadn't seen that last commercial Stefan. It really is funny to have all these commercials of Tmobile bashing AT&T as AT&T acquires them.

That was the dumbest ad on the planet to begin with because ATT & T-Mobile use the same basic equipment/system.... and neither is a true 4G network. These networks are probably best described as a 3G-plus network, because both are just an upgraded 3G and not a true next generation.

That is true of all 4g providers (Verizon, and Sprint included). There is no standard in order to call your product 4g, so they could call 2 cans attached to a sting as 4g if they wanted to. I believe the ad was more about what you give up for the iPhone to be on AT&T's network as opposed to the actual speeds themselves.

We get really good coverage from TMobile out here, and I've had a great customer service relationship with them in the 8 years I've been with them. I'm wondering if the customer service will plummet and if I'll still be tied in to the 2 year contract I just got in November for TMobile (not AT&T!)....

I just hope I get to convert all the T-mobile stores to AT&T.
Thats what I have been doing with Utah Alltel stores.

I have had T-mobile AGAIN for almost two years now after switching from AT&T because I was unhappy with their service (cricket, t-mobile, at&t, back to t-mobile). The internet on my phone is SssssLLlllooooowWww compared to someone with the same capabilities on another network and similar phone. I have had 3G intermittently and only in SLC. I am counting the days I can dump this phone and try Verizon, unless I see major improvements after AT&T takes over if they get the approval.

    this has some answers.....
I'm hoping (and it seems as if it is so) my new TMobile G2 phone will still be good, as It kicks ass and it wasn't cheap!

    Service improve?

There's little difference between four nationwide companies and a monopoly, let alone three. Now that the low price player has been effectively "removed" from the field, I expect my bill to go up another $10-$20 in the upcoming months. Some here like to call that free enterprise but I like to call it collusion.

BTW, my phone has the IQ of a simpleton, but I'm going back to a truly stupid one. All it needs is a micro-SD slot and the ability to play MP3's. Fashion be damned. I'd rather spend that extra $500 per year on a Yamaha keyboard or a drum kit.
seen all good people turn their heads each day so satisfied I'm on my way...
