    Across Canyonlands Hike

    Heya --

I've got new video from an old trip: my 2007 hike across Canyonlands and the Abajos. The stretch from Green River to near Blanding is one of the longest stretches in the US w/o an intersecting paved road (over 100 miles as the crow flies.)

The two 15-minutes videos are more of a trip report and less snappy than my previous videos (sorry -- no music.) But... after so many years I wanted to get them posted. Here's part 1 of 2:

If it doesn't link to part 2, check it out here:

    Love the TR

What do you do for a job that let's you take that much time off? Do they have any openings?

Actually they do... as I quit last year! So far the freelance route has been less profitable... but more worthy as I've had more time to travel! I create content for DVD/Blu-ray to try and get people to buy movies instead of renting. It's kinda a losing battle so I like to think about other options... while hiking across Utah!

    Thanks,

    Jamal,

Most excellent! I really enjoy living vicariously through your camera lens. Thanks for the inspiration.

What kind of tent are you using these days? It looked like you had a 2-man. I’d have thought that you would be one of the super light guys for the kind of distance you cover.

Impressive! Do you and Buzz ever get together?

I currently use a FlyCreek 1-man. When I shot this video I just used what I had -- a 2-man REI tent. Slowly over the years I've lightened my load. But, I'm never going to go true ultra-light and just use a tarp as a cover. I enjoy having a full tent too much. My 7+ pounds of electronics also separates me from true ultra-light hikers!

    >Do you and Buzz ever get together?
Nope -- I just know everyone on here via avatars and trip reports. Actually... I've met Tom. He babysat my Jeep on my very first Utah thru hike.

    Your TR is .

How do you recharge your electronic devices batteries during the hike?

    Heya zzyzx --

I use a rollable solar charger on my trips like this one:

Check out a recent thread in this group that discussed other options as well.

Mine is pretty good for me as it is fairly light and will power all my gear with a simple adapter. I usually put it out every other morning while I'm breaking down camp and getting ready to set out.
