Rope Play in St. George, Sat 5 Feb 11

I know it's late notice, but heading down to St. George tomorrow to play on the cliffs (too cold in Cedar City). Care to join me? I will be practicing some new techniques with the Purcell Cordelette, my new GriGri2, the Totem, and other cool toys.

What time and where? I am new to this but have been climbing for the last 10 weeks at the Gap and would love to learn anything. Also took a class up at Weber with Dr. Willden. Just started learning to set ropes two weeks ago and then the temp decided to drop.

So Tanya there was a little role playing while playing with the ropes.

I played the victim and had to be rescued. What a great day with Bo and Rich! I learned so much my head was pretty much spinning by the time Rich was done with showing us all the things you can do with the Totem. Don, I get why you were so excited about this little device now.

I learned how to tie myself off on repel,to ascend the rope (this was cool), tie a prusik and klemheist. I played secretary while they were testing ropes. I learned a million new terms which are jumbled in my head but with more time they will sort themselves out.

Thanks guys! I had a great time. It was nice to meet you Rich.

Nice to meet you, too. Blue Eyes.

Planning to be back in St. George next Saturday ...

Sat, 12 Feb. 10:00 AM to whenever. Dixie Rocks (Pioneer Park) in St. George.

    Knotcraft & Anchors
Not just knots, but creative uses for knots. Figure eight and bowline knot families. Hitches and bends. Friction hitches for ascending and haul systems. Webbing knotcraft including ring bend, overhands and frost knots. Systems for static and dynamic "courtesy" rappels. Knot chocks and chock stones. Anchors, anchors and more anchors; some simple, some complex and creative.

Not a formal course or workshop, just a practice session, but you just might learn a thing or two.

It was definitely fun, Bo. Looking forward to seeing the pick-off video. I will likely do a few more of these Saturday gigs over the next few weeks. Staying close to home until Ashley recovers. Otherwise I would be teaching a course in Vietnam right now. Vietnam? St. George? Both fun, exotic locations.

Had a great time with everyone on Saturday. 18 people showed up from as far away as Bountiful to practice knots and anchors.

Will do one more next Saturday, the 19th. This one will be a Totem workshop. Each participant must bring their own Totem. Buy online at:

If you are in St. George, Bo has Totems at Desert Rat. Out 'N Back in Orem carries them, too.
