Even more Moab Rock Art
Saturday, December 4, 2010
On Saturday morning, I awoke bright and early so that I could head back to the Moab area to find some more rock art. On my drive towards Moab, I was treated to an excellent sunrise over the La Sal Mountains. Here's some photos from my day...

I find it somewhat interesting that Bruce Hucko named the Fish Man pictograph the way he did. I believe he was mistaken and thought that the center image was a fish skeleton. I know the Anasazi did not eat fish.....not sure if this held true for the archaic people of the area. Still, I am sure this is not a fish skeleton.

Though we all have the option of naming these sites anything we like on our own websites.....I sort of liked the misnomer Bruce had given this and just kept that name when I posted shots of it on my site."You're not lost...if you don't care where you are"

Re: "fih man""
I think it is more likely a representation of a giant centipede, which are found in this area. I have seen several other petroglyphs around Moab which seem pretty clearly to be these remarkable insects, and they all look very similar to this one. The two antennae at the "bottom" of the glyph (like a downward pointing "V") match the two large antennae that giant centipedes have.
