Needles October 2010
Thanks to the board's help in planning my cross-country trip to Needles last weekend, it was smooth sailing. I camped 3 nights, 1 each at LC1, EC2, and CP1, and the night skies were a highlight for me, so much so that I got very little sleep. No trip report yet, but I just started going through my pics and I thought I would post a few for your enjoyment until I have time to look through them more thoroughly. More later . . .

Great photos! Definitely would like to hear about the trip and where these photos were taken; we were there a week ago (Tues night), but there were no clouds and the campground was full, so as close as we could get to the park was Hamburger Rock CG...which made early a.m. or night photos not doable.
Curious: for #4, were the rocks lit by the moon? That is a totally sweet photo.Sonya

Thanks guys. The skys were clear until my last morning. At dawn, the clouds rolled in and made for some nicer sunrise shots around chesler park. That 4th pic I took while snug in my bag at EC2 campsite and is pretty close to the naked eye view, with the canyon wall lit by moonlight. The one below is the same wall pre-dawn, but the big dipper appeared brighter - I may have a more realistic photo.

Thanks denaliguide. Sadly, I came nowhere close to going all the places i wanted on trail, much less off.
I'm batch processing my HDRs tonight, but this one popped out at me. Just a quicky, it still needs some work. This is looking down on Elephant Canyon from the CP1 campsite.

I'm still looking through my pictures and found an - almost - nice surprise. I futilely tried to get this guy flying over the canyon in a nice silhouette, but the photos came out blurry as I was set up to take the sunrise. This one came out somewhat sharper but not sharp enough. Even still, it would have been a keeper if the shutter snapped a couple milliseconds sooner. Oh well, I'll consider it a nice surprise anyway!
