Alex Smith may never be a good starting QB in the NFL, but having 8 offensive coordinators? Damn. They looked okay against the Saints and almost got it done. They just left too much time on the clock for Brees.

Quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson was promoted to lead playcaller. Johnson becomes the 49ers' eighth offensive coordinator in eight seasons. Assistant Jason Michael was promoted to quarterbacks coach.
