Eccentric Peak
Dave and I hiked Eccentric Peak Sunday. We took the less used northern route from Spirit Lake. Not an easy bushwack form Spirit lake until we broke out of the timber. From there it was fairly straight forward over Daggett Peak (12,005), down the saddle and back up Eccentric Peak. We used Summit Post as our guide and decided to head west form Dagget Peak and come down just west of Tamarack Lake as described in Summit Post. This way we also avoided the bushwhacking through the timber as there is a trail back from a low pass west of Tamarack Lake. It was a great hike except for a vicious wind present pretty much through the whole hike. It was strong enough that, at times, I had trouble keeping my balance. Much of the hike was at elevations over 11,000 feet so not a good one if you suffer from altitude sickness but if you love being above timberline it was fantastic. I realized later that I didn't take enough tundra shots, sorry! When Dave filled out the register someone commented that it was the flattest peak he had ever seen! Note the next to the last shot shows the route back to Daggett and Eccentric Peaks.
