Thread: If your job was eliminated...

    If your job was eliminated...

If your job was eliminated... the whole profession, GONE... what else would you do?

I got to thinking about this today. What would I rather be doing, day in and day out?

Something where I could spend alot of time outdoors. A backcountry Ranger @ Glacier NP sounds good.

Chances of construction going away are not real high w/o everyone else in the world going south at the same time. Oh wait, that pretty much happened.... Hmmm better start looking for openings @ GNP....

Go back to doing nails I suppose. But for my whole line of work to be eliminated... they would have to do away with hospitals. And my kind is already in desperate need. Hence the reason I landed here in Southern Utah to create more of me. Wahahahaha

Video game tester. Porn reviewer. Porn star. Bogley webmaster.

Okay, seriously. This question is very valid since I work in newspaper, an industry that is in trouble.

I just published an opinion about it here...

Lately I have been really enjoying teaching photography. I could definitely see myself doing that for a living. I also think I would be pretty decent at IT.

I can't imagine computers going away, but if they did, I'd become a hermit & renounce society. Picture Burt Reynolds in "Without a Paddle."

Maybe a guitar instructor. But only that if I couldn't find a job working in the mountains. I think I'd try that first--even working at Alta would be nice. Probably low wages, but other perks.

But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.

The state of society????....my job isn't going anywhere.... (if society cleaned itself up to the point that I would be out of a job, oh happy day!)

But if it did, I'd probably teach/coach or open a restaurant.

I got a profession for ya. Not IT. Medical field and it is not going away anytime soon. Clinical Laboratory Science... check out this page http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos096.htm it will give you an idea. You are close to Weber so if you are interested call Travis Price or Scott Wright up in the CLS Department 801-626-6118. And if you really do like the computer thing do it along side CLS. The machines you maintain in the labs are heavily computer dependent. There are some good jobs out there for service reps that understand the IT side and the lab side.

Let's see. With a degree in computational mathematics...

Is there anything technical that doesn't rely upon mathematics as its foundation?

    I could always teach...

But then I'm afraid I'd kill one of the little bastards.

I'm pretty sure they frown on that sort of thing.
seen all good people turn their heads each day so satisfied I'm on my way...

I'm a teacher...so...they are getting rid of teachers entirely....interesting world we are creating with this question...

I guess I'd use my degree in the field it is intended for...Mechanical Engineering....I'd enjoy my job less and make a LOT more.

I work for the school district, so as long as I don't mention School Vouchers I should be safe.

I work in mental health (For another month). The worse the economy gets, the better our business gets. I don't forsee my job going anywhere soon. But if it did....I'd prolly go with vagrant, Storm Trooper, or porn star.

If my industry (IT) went away, I'd bring it back and become filthy rich :)
