Bear Lake, Highline Trail, Bear River, Oneida Res, Cleveland, Paris Canyon, Etc, Etc.

I rode a couple different 100 mile loops over the last week. Both rides were amazing, but the second took me over to Cleveland, ID and then past maple grove hot springs. Then back over the top and out Paris canyon. I only took a few photos of the miles and miles of amazing trails in the area. I also hit 10,000 on my trusty ole KTM dirt sofa. The pig is still running strong and eats these trails for lunch.

Looks like fun. When we gonna go hit it?

Damnit, here I was thinking the Pauite was as far north as I needed to drive. Now you've introduced another area I have to check out. Maybe this will weigh into my thoughts as I think about moving to Idaho. I hate Vegas in the summer!

    Acca,

What day did you do this? We rode the Beaver Mtn Highline Copenhagen basin Down to the Bear Cave for lunch and then back up Fish Haven to Beaver Mtn. on Wednesday? Have you rode 312-314 from Bloomington to St. Charles. If you have do you know how that big freakin boiler got out in the middle of nowhere? If you haven't it's an awesome single track. Maybe 5" wide at its widest spot.

Have you rode 340? We were going to hit it but didn't make it.
I can't believe how much fun those trails are up there.

Where's Oneida Res? At the monument have you ever gone west down to Cub River? From what I understand that monument is designating where the mail use to be hauled by horse from Preston to St. Charles?

Yeah, I rode almost all of them and have ridden the others over the years. I did not ride 340, but I saw that one along the way. Thanks for the map. I was going to go pick one up in Paris or somewhere, but didn't make the time. Amazing riding for sure. I came out here near Cleveland (far left and center of the map) and down the road from Oneida Narrows Reservoir. I took 441 and came out at highway 34. Then I went along the Bear River and toward Oneida Res and then cut back on the road leading to highway 36. Then I jumped on the 499 and back over a series of trails to mill canyon and back out Paris canyon. Awesome stuff. Now I have the map...

I saw that trail and wondered the same thing. I don't think I have been on it. It goes downhill very steeply...

That trail, which goes from the rock monument (head of North Fork St. Charles) to the Willow Flat campground, hasn't been open to motorcycles since 2005. Probably best. It gets a lot steeper, and there's a fairly big drop/up (~6') at a rock outcrop on a steep, off-chamber slope near the spring (source of Cub River).

The mail route was further to the north, and was on an old Shoshone Indian trail that went between the Bear Lake and Cache valleys. It's also no longer open to motorcycles, and on the Hull Valley (west) side, is steeper than the Willow Flat trail.

Do you know what the monument is for?

Sorry, I don't, or if it's anything other than a rock signpost. Personally, I've always called it the "big rock cairn", but since most call it some variation of monument, I sometimes do to save confusion. There's (or was) a sign for the Shoshone Indian Trail (no relation to the Shoshone ATV Trail on the Utah side) on the Willow Flats Road. There's a rock cairn on the ridgeline, above the Highline Trail, at the top of the Shoshone Indian Trail... may be worth walking it a ways if you see it.
