    Bear Closes Payson Lakes

Bear scare forces closure of some Payson Lakes campgrounds
    July 21st, 2010 @ 10:20pm

UINTA NATIONAL FOREST -- A bear scare forced forest teams to close some campgrounds at Payson Lakes in the Uinta National Forest.
The U.S. Forest Service says a black bear had visited the same campground for several mornings.
Wednesday, crews closed that campground and several others and moved the campers already staying in the area. They set humane bear traps and hope to catch the bear and return it to the wild. Then, they'll be able to re-open the campsites.

So, they want to 'return it to the wild' and I'm left wondering; when did National Forest stop being wild?

I have seen signs of bears up there for many many years. About 15 years ago my brother in law and I were always trying to be the first to fish a lake after the winter snow and ice had melted so we hiked up to the first lake past the closed gates and saw some very obvious fresh bear marks on some trees. Kinda freaked my younger bro in law out. We had nothing to worry about as we were always less than stealthy. It may have been that those days were my Brute after shave days. I think that repelled the bears too.

I wonder what happened. First they were going to catch and relocate, that article said it was 'put down'.
