SUMMIT COUNTY -- Search and rescue crews have located a missing hiker on Kings Peak.

According to Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds, crews in a Department of Public Safety helicopter found 61-year-old Steven A. Wiscombe of Tremonton around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

"He's in excellent condition. He does not require any medical attention," said Edmunds. "I'm sure he has an unbelievable story to tell. He's been out all night in pretty severe weather, but the good news is he's in perfect condition and we're happy to report that."

He was found near where he was last seen Wednesday.

Crews launched the search after Wiscombe became separated from his son and grandson somewhere on the north side of Kings Peak around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.

The son and grandson made it down the mountain. They say a severe hail and lightning storm hit before they could go back up the mountain to search for Wiscombe.

About 25 searchers headed up the mountain on Thursday.

How do you lose sight of anybody on the north side of King's Peak? It's just...rocks. All the way to Anderson Pass. I mean, I could see losing someone on Gunsight Pass but the rest of it seems wide open.

Feel sorry for the guy, being out in a hail and lightning storm on King's Peak. Only worse place I can imagine is Lone Peak. Gack.
