    Gentry Mountain

My family and I went for a ride on Gentry Mountain this Independence Day weekend, and I had a great time there. There are a lot of good views from the top, and it was only a 20-mile drive from my house to the staging area. We left the truck parked above the old townsite of Wattis and followed the steep switchbacks up the mountain to Star Point. From there we continued to Gentry Mountain and took the road south from Hoag Ridge all the way to Wild Horse Point. The road ended in a short loop there, and we could see into the town of Huntington and parts of Huntington Canyon.

After abandoning our plan to hike out onto Wild Horse Ridge due to private property concerns, we backtracked just a bit and rode toward McCadden Hollow, then out onto an unnamed ridge between Tie Fork Canyon and Trail Canyon. We had more good views down into Huntington Canyon and across to the Wasatch Plateau.

Our last destination was Gentry Ridge, which required us to backtrack to the intersection near Hoag Ridge, then turn west and follow the road as it curved south. The last mile of the trail along Gentry Ridge is only wide enough for ATVs, and it winds through aspen and pine trees. There had been a wildfire near the end of Gentry Ridge, and although barren, it was still beautiful in a way.
