Memorial Weekend Lake Powell - Hiking, Camping, Relaxing, Possible Canyoneering, etc.

    Hey all,

Looks like we might have some room on our upcoming Memorial Day weekend Lake Powell trip. The plan is to have two groups, a "canyoneering" group and a "hiking" group. The canyoneers get dropped off insanely early, and get picked up just before dark. The rest of the time is free game for the hikers/relaxers.

We are heading down towards the Rainbow Bridge area on Lake Powell, which is an incredibly beautiful area. We'll be camping on a beach out there; enjoying a fire, potluck, etc. The weather is supposed to be mid-80's and sunny; great weather for boating, or even relaxing on the beach there.

We are capping the trip at 15 people max, 7 of which are canyoneers. We've filled the canyoneer spots (but see next paragraph), but have a few spots available for hikers. I already have the Hiking Lake Powell book, and have copied all the hikes near the area we are staying; and there are plenty of great opportunities - including West Canyon which is spectacular!

Note: Even if you are with the "hiking" crew, likely you will be going into canyons. (Unless you decide not to.) They just will likely be an up and back kind of thing; with folks turning around when they no longer feel comfortable. The area down there will be spectacular, regardless of the group you join.

The groups are mainly to keep track of who is going out in which boat shuttle. The canyoneers are just going to be the insane ones leaving early, coming back late; and taking the committing route.

What I'm thinking is that if there is enough interest, the "hikers" could do Moepitz the following day. (Since the "canyoneers" will have already gone down it the previous day; so we will know the way in (GPS points), the length of the day, the longest drop, etc. Depending on the answers to those questions, it might be possible for the "hikers" to do Moepitz while the "canyoneers" attempt Anasazi on Saturday.

With 15 people, the cost should be less than $200 for the entire weekend; including all fees, gas, boat rental, etc. Here's the estimates:
