Cave or Mine Shaft?
Found this cave (or mine shaft) today. It's most of the way up a cliff face. Odd place for a mine, but there was enough man-made material near by, that it probably is an old mine.
Hole was far deeper than I dared to explore. Couldn't see all the way to the bottom, even with illumination (had a flash light and glo-sticks).
Anybody have any info. on this?

I don't recall seeing any tool marks. The only man-made materials seen were an old hand-made wooden ladder and a piece of aluminum (on the ground at the cliff face). Yes, from what I could see, the hole dropped at least 15-20' into a large open space. I couldn't see much more beyond that.

Almost certainly it's a cave. Looks like classic limestone.
Some mines go through limestone to get to intrusive bodies, but most likely this is a cave. It's in the perfect kind of rock that forms the vast majority of soultion caves and there are several known caves in that same general area.

Anyone checked this out yet? I'm still trying to free some time to run out there.
