For the new forums - suggestion

When you guys roll out the new changes, I have a suggestion to make.

Is it possible to create a script or something that will create a document (or .pdf preferrably) of the current thread?

For example: When I scan through the Backpacking and Camping forums, I see lots of great TRs and one weakness of the BB system, is TRs and useful threads get pushed down and out of sight (unless you search for it).

I think it would be great tool if a person could have the option of downloading the entire thread contents. It would show the entire thread and everyone's comments and pictures.

Although, there is a temporary solution of doing this now by saving the current webpage (.html). BUT it only works for that page. If the thread had numerous pages, you would have to manually save each one.

Would that be impossible to implement?

os x can additionally save(print) to pdf, as you know, but you can always use a service like

    http://www.web2pdfconvert.com/

and they have a button for websites
    http://www.web2pdfconvert.com/pdf-button.aspx

and a button for the browser too
    http://www.web2pdfconvert.com/pdf-browser.aspx

the problem with both of these is that neither spans multiple pages.

perhaps a solution would be for bogley to create a special link (or something related) which causes a thread to load in a single page so that something like web2pdfconvert/savetopdf could be used to save the entire thread to a pdf.

Hey Stefan, I tried your links on the political forum but all I got was a Pdf of the sign-in page. I think that is the case due to the password protection on the Basement section. How would I free that up to print off a thread or two? Granted, me and computers don't always get along -- user incompetence/error/whatever. So that may be the reason I can't figure it out.

There will be an option to "Show Printable Version". If you want to convert ANYTHING to pdf, go to http://cutepdf.com - not only documents, but anthing that you can send to a printer, you'd be able to convert to pdf.

Without giving too many details, we're doing some "official" beta testing this week on some "stuff". Stay tuned.

yup, that's exactly what I was trying to explain.

That way, I can save "TR - Grand Canyon" in a PDF format (or whatever format) for archival reference later.

I'll look into web2pdfconvert.com. Thanks for the link.

yeah, they would need a password to gain access to it.

since you're using your password, you'd need to be able to do this locally on your computer. could try to install something like this program which sets up a print-to-pdf. then once you're logged in you could use the print-to-pdf on the webpage. since i'm not on windows i can't check this to see how it works.
