My wife was reading your TR and getting all excited, she loves to rappel. She decides she wants to try out death valley but then she asked me if the hotel will have a pool.

there are two hotels right in furnace creek, it would be like a 15 minute drive to the canyons. how's that sound?

oh yeah, they cost a pretty penny...

We stayed in a cabin and had a wonderful stay. There is a huge swimming pool that is AWESOME! The pool is spring fed with hot water year round.

physically, i was surprised i never had any issues. we all did pretty well actually. we kept a variety of going from the top or going from the bottom, which helped a lot. my knee was a champ, surprisingly.

mentally, however, i needed some days off.

I was pained to decline the invite I really wanted to go but it just wouldn't work out that weekend.

Furance Creek Ranch isn't too bad.... $150 per night.
The Furnace Creek Inn is pricy.... $350 per night.

But with the hot young stripper wife I've noticed the quality of the nightly entertainment goes up exponentially with the the quality of the hotel.... so.... $350 could be a bargain.... depending.....

Thanks for your *confidence* Mark. Actually, the place is EZ on ropes, though that Widowmaker (590 foot rappel) might be good for selling some cords, if the canyon was any good.

The rock in the watercourses is highly polished and very smooth. The anchors are big piles of rocks, and generally back 5 to 15 feet from the edge. At first I thought this would make problems pulling the rope, but the rock is so smooth (in most places) that it does not really matter.

I'm disagreeing with you Shane.

When the kid was working there for a winter season a couple of years ago, we went out to visit. I wanted to stay at the Inn, but was happy we were talked into the Ranch. The properties are related, so you can stay at the Ranch and still hang/visit the Inn. You can only use the Inn pool if you stay at the Inn. The pool at the Ranch is huge. We spent the afternoon in the garden with drinks at the Inn before supper - the sunset was beautiful. Later in the evening, we returned to the Ranch and hung at the bar - people were fun and easy going.
