TR: Little Moab / Nutty Putty Area (15 Dec 2009)
Decided to take today off and get in a bit of snow riding. I staged just outside the Little Moab area around 0800.
Starting temperature was around 20F.
My primary goal was to test a set of ARC Extreme Outdoor clothes (pants/jacket) that I had just purchased from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC.
Considering the starting temperature, the clothing worked real well against the wind chill and cold temperatures.
I determined that the clothing was water resistant, but not water proof.
My first stop was the Nutty Putty Cave. I was curious to see how they had sealed the entrance. With just under a foot of snow around the cave, it was difficult to determine how the cave was closed off. It appeared as though they just filled the mouth with rocks. Many plants and flowers were scattered around and in the cave -- and long since dead and covered by the snow and temperature.
From there, I rode south on Allen Ranch road and South toward Chilius Pass. Once in the pass, there was easily well over 1 foot of fresh powder -- making it a challenge to keep the ATV plowing forward.
