TR: this time really did feel like we were Fixin' To Die!

We took off Friday evening with the hope of going to camp out up at deep creek canyon, then going to the dead bat pool room which resides in the scary traverse pit in Fixin

    two thoughts.

    1) chains for all 4 tires.

    2) if your kleimheist is slipping you need another wrap or two for the additional friction.

thats a great cave. loved the pics. have you made it into groaning yet. you were camped within walking distance of it.
But if I agreed with you, we would both be wrong.

That's freakin awesome! Nice pitures, as always. Besides the cave pictues, I like the view of Snowmass and the Elk Mountains from the Flat Tops. I'm glad you made it up there. It's snowing like crazy now, so you may need a snow mobile next time

As always the pictures were top notch.

I'm shocked you guys made it to the cave and back. I would have thought there would be to much snow. Sounds like now there is.

Nice truck. Get some chains, you would be amazed what you can do. Putting them on all 4 is best, but just the front will do if you only have 2

It says alot that you think that is one of the better pits when you have seen some of the best caves Colorado has to offer. After seeing those pictures I might have to get out to Fixin someday

Thanks for the cool trip report.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the report, it was a hell of a trip for sure!

Either of you seen anything like that before?

BTW I'd be honored to take you guys back there next summer or whenever you can make it.

I was thinking the first few pics looked a lot like some of the stuff in Williams Canyon. I've seen similar features in Hubbards Cave too. The orange-colored features look very unique. That's a nice place you found there.

    Amazing stuff. Two questions:

    1. Is the dead bat just "fossilized" onto the surface of the cave?
    2. Were you using ascenders to get back up your rope?
Just where is it I could find bear, beaver, and other critters worth cash money when skint?
