Thread: Chilly?

    Chilly?

My wife had -15F at the house this morning. Chilly, but not unusual for December.

It was really cold in the mountains though, at least if you count windchill.

I solo climbed Colorado Mines Peak (12,497 feet) today and the wind was screaming across the Continental Divide. On the summit, I recorded the temperature at -4F and estimated the winds at 30-50 mph on the upper slopes, which would put the windchill at -37F (-61F on the old windchill chart!). Winter season is almost here!

Here is a photo I took from the summit:

Snow shoe or cross country ski's to get to that location? Nice photo! I love walking ridge lines.

I used snowshoes to climb the peak.

It's been somewhat chilly here as well (more so than last year). Went hiking last weekend, temps were supposed to be mid 30F, but with the wind, it was easily closer to 12F.

I was wearing Jeans and thin gloves and going through a foot of snow. Needless to say, I froze my butt off and all the things that usually stay outside, were well inside upon my return home.

I'm looking forward to REAL snow so I can really get some decent snow shoeing on. My last trip was through about a foot, but I was walking on rocks and tree branches (due to the thin layer of snow).
