We've had the same plastic tree for 10+ years now. We couldn't justify sponsoring the felling of real trees - only to have them destroyed.

Additionally, we have almost no fire hazard with the fake tree.

Takes longer to setup, looks almost real and can be made to have the same scent.

We have a fake tree that we have used for about 8 years now, but this year, we decided to go out in the woods and cut down our own tree. So last Sunday, I packed up the wife and kids and drove up Cub River in Idaho and found a lovely specimen.

It looks a lot nicer than our fake one and it's way easier to set up. I didn't even have to fluff the branches.

Mine is fake. You think I am going to admit to having a new one on this tree huggin' forum! J/K

I was driving by a tree lot on 12600 south down near the Jordan River and they had a fire going and I could smell the fresh trees. Boy did that scent smell good. Great marketing! I might need a fresh tree again soon too. These are the smells that make riding a motorcycle so nice...even when it is in the teens in the AM.
