A Park City hiker died after falling about 30 feet in San Juan County this week, police said.

William E. Thompson, 62, was looking at American Indian ruins in the South Fork part of Mule Canyon on Monday, sheriff Mike Lacy said in a news release.

He fell while hiking in the area 30 miles west of Blanding and suffered multiple injuries, Lacy said. Search and rescue crews responded about 2 p.m. and flew him to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N.M., where he died of his injuries.
