20 years ago today...
The Berlin Wall came down. I still remember watching it all on tv.
After decades of isolation the West finally was introduced to the East's infamous german dog crap porn.
Ahhh good times, good times.

I remember visiting DDR a number of times while growing up as a kid in Poland. We had relatives living in a little town south of Berlin. They lived across the road from a big corn field. I once sneaked across the road to get some corn and as I was trying to get some I noticed a column of russian tanks rolling toward me. As a kid I thought they might be after me so I dropped to the ground and waited for them to pass, hehe.
We also once visited West Berlin via train from the East and it was amazing. I could not stop looking at all the colorful billboards, heh. My dad and uncle left the kids with the woman and ran away to visit car dealership. Good times."Always look at the bright side of life"

I was there (along with my little brother) and have a piece of it.
Didn't even think about it until my 14 year old asked to see it.

My dad grew up in East Berlin. He was surprised to see it come down but he says he doesnt think he'd ever go back to see Berlin although I think he would if he ever got the chance. I know I would We still have relatives there but they don't keep in contact very well.

I drove through East Germany to West Berlin with my family in 1987. Needless to say it was a most interesting trip enhanced by the knowledge that in my private vehicle and in uniform no one could stop me from going anywere on the east side of the wall. We visited the Russian Cemetary built from rubble of the Reichstag and the Pergamon Museum with it's biblical gate. Normally people only were shown the best of East Germany around the communications tower. But behind the scenes was poverty and conditions only seen in the slums of America. It was quite the experience. And I still have some of the stacking dolls that we paid $.50 for which now sell for $25-30.

Pretty amazing, I was just a young kid in elementary school but remember the day very vividly.
