Utah, Robbers Roost, Mindbender Canyon Accident

Utah, Robbers Roost, Mindbender Canyon Accident
Saturday, Early Afternoon, Oct. 17, 2009
    Preliminary Second Hand Report
Formal Incident Report(s) - may or may not be made public

Accident: Party on last rap in Mindbender - approx. 150 ft. "losses friction" some 90 ft. down the rope and slides (holding both hands above him) and drops some 60 ft. to the ground. The victim reportedly was wearing no gloves. Initial diagnosis: Broken Pelvis; Broken Femur.

Reported Group: Four adult men from the Utah - "Wasatch Front". Two were MD's, one had S&R background and two reportedly had formal ACA canyon training.

Incident: Party A rapped to the bottom. Took out video/camera and filmed as party B, rapped down and then "lost it and crashed". The other two parties rapped down and then one in the group went down canyon and was able to call 911. SAR from Hans Flat and adjacent counties subsequently responded. Air rescue initially landed on the canyon access road and then dropped approx. a half mile down canyon from the victim, who was then carried to the chopper and air lifted to Grand Junction. (No further info presently available)

Can U say: "ROPE BURNS!!!!" I'll bet he's got grooves cut into his hands down to the bone.
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

BTW...when do they release the names so I know where to send the "get well" cards to?

I might know these guys... if so... I'm already working on getting a copy of the video....

Hopefully they will share their mistake with us so that others might learn with a little less pain....
