Any info on Clear Creek Canyon (Cathedral in the Desert) in Lake Powell
A few of us are are talking about trying Clear Creek Canyon (Cathedral in the Desert) in Lake Powell soon. I'm having a little trouble finding complete details on the canyon. Anyone that has done it care to share some info? Mainly:
1) Longest rappel,
2) Are wetsuits required/recommended this time of the year (maybe for two skinny gals?)
3) Any additional equipment required (other than standard rap gear),
3) How many raps,
4) Challenges for a newbie
All the photos I have found everyone is in wetsuits even in September. I've hiked up from the bottom a bit past a few of the small raps and a few potholes and the water didn't seem unbearable in the summer. Any thoughts?
We have a shuttle boat, getting dropped off at the bottom of Hole-In-The-Rock and will be picked up at the bottom of the canyon close to the Cathedral in the Desert. Two experienced Canyoneers and one newbie; possibly taking my 12 year old daughter that has done a couple of easy canyons if the water is not too cold and she feels up to the 90 foot rap.
I have found the following helpful links:

http://www.canyoneeringusa.com/rave/0809clear/index.htm
and a hike from the bottom at:

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanx for the info...Just visited the Cathedral a few weeks ago and the Cathedral fall is under water, water is up to first set of potholes above the waterfall.
Any ideas about wetsuits required this time of year, can't imagine they would be required, but understand the canyon is spring fed? Is it as cold as The Black Hole? Anyone do this without wetsuits in summer and regret it?

The pothole section is V shaped and shallow. You get good sun exposure in many spots and could probably warm up fairly easily without suits. It's not nearly as cold as the black hole. I did it in early October and both WyoDave and I wore full suits. I remember us both getting a bit chilled (I think I remember it being warm outside, but certainly not summer time temps). We could bypass many pools however if we felt like it (obviously more fun to not bypass). The pothole section isn't much of a "canyon," but it's a lot of fun to play around in.

Doing Poe and Happy Dog from Lake Powell makes for a much easier route, but you do have to deal with a boat.

Anyone have additional Lake Powell info or beta to add to this thread?

Did Clear Creek from the lake a couple of weeks ago. Lots of pots all sizes, lots of sheer wall exits. Most had water but water levels were very low, many very serious. We stemmed or bypassed all of them. Had a time table to meet, people hiked up from the lake to meet us at the alcove rap. One big keeper above that, we set up a guided rappel. The top of the Cathedral water fall is about 6' above the lake at 3601'. The canyon to the lake very nice.
