I voted "usually" because especially in recent years many have been either missing or full or the pens were missing. Even if paper and pen are both there, sometimes in winter you can't sign them because the ink in the pens is frozen solid, if the register is even above the level of the snow.

Yeah, it fun to read too.

Won't ever sign them. Its been my experience that once the Forest Service has enough proof that an area has too many visitors, they use it as an excuse to bring in a permit system.

I usually sign the logs if they're not water soaked. I too like to see where folks are coming from. Amazing that along the Paiute (Silver King mine), folks are signing the log from all over the world.

I, too, love to read what people from other parts of the world think about the trail I've hiked. My favorite is when someone writes something about the emotional or spiritual experience they were having as they climbed the trail. I never write that type of stuff but I appreciate it when others do.

The thing I love the most about reading these things is that it makes me grateful for where I live. I'll hike a trail that's 30 minutes from my house and I'll think, "Wow. Someone from ____________ [New York or Georgia.. or even Bolivia, France, Korea, Germany, etc.] came all the way here." It motivates me to get out more and appreciate where I live.
