    Ultimate Canyon Bolting

All right.... time to come clean.... technically you could say I have placed a couple of bolts in canyons....

No... I did not design the new bridge over Black Canyon..... but I did design a lot of the crane and cable system (visible in the photo) used to erect the new bridge.

On the positive side.... I believe everything I was responsible for will be removed when the bridge is complete.

How close is that thing to completion?

The entire project is a little over a year away from completion. The arch has been topped out (completed). I haven't done anything on this project for nearly a year. Once a project is through the design stage I don't hear back unless we screwed something up.

I've been out on the road section from the Nevada side and all over the Arizona side. The crane system is very unique. I also watched them set cables.
Great project. Too bad we have to hire Japanese Engineers and Construction Co. to do the project.

I took a lot of pictures out there, I think it was June.
Watching the cranes lean as they work is amazing.
I'm guessing Shane has more info if he was in on there design.
Early on there was a crane that went off the cliff and down to the river. Set the project back about 1 year, I think is what I was told.

I took my olympus 850sw, so not the best of photo quality.

    ???

I thought the project was awarded to HDR Engineering headquartered out of Omaha, Nebraska.... but I really don't know anything about who the general on the job was as my company worked as a sub contractor for a local steel fabricator who was working as a sub for the erector who was working as a sub for the general.

Some of the large items that were lifted into place required a specialized attachment (rigging) between the crane and the item being lifted. That is where I spent most my time and I was paid in greenbacks... that's all I cared about....

A very good friend of mine own's the company supplying the steel re-enforcing for the project. We walked the site with the project manager, very informative. Truly a once in a lifetime oppurtunity.

So how many people do you think are going to try to jump off that bad boy once its finished. I know i would love to rap off of it down to the river. The only problem is that you would probably get sucked under by the strong currents at the base of the damn.
