Labor Day on the Colorado
For Labor Day Andrew, Amanda and I spent a few hours on the Colorado River near Moab. We put in at Hittle Bottom and took out at Takeout Beach. The water was pretty low and slow...plus there was a little wind up the canyon, so Andrew and I had to take turns rowing in order to keep moving at a reasonable speed. In the end, it took us about 6 hours to make it to Takeout Beach. It was a good workout and we had fun along the way, too.
Finished inflating the raft by hand...

Looks like fun! Is that an Engel cooler? How do you like it?

Yes, it is an Engel (80 qrt) I really like it. Seems to do pretty good at keeping things cold. Typically for ice, I do not use loose ice, but instead have a few 1.5 Gallon water bottles that I have frozen. About 1 day before i go anywhere, I grab one of the bottles, fill the cooler 1/2 full and chuck it in - leave it in over night to "cool" the cooler. Then when I am packing the cooler, I get another one of the "Ice Packs" from the freezer, and use that as my cooler. I went away for 3 days over the Summer, and everything was still nice and cold on the Sunday night when I got home. 2 Advantages to doing that is that you have 1 1/2 gallons of emergency water, and you dont have the messy, sloshing around in ice water to find your beverage.
1 thing that I did find using that method though, is to freeze your steaks, or chicken or other meat. if you are going for more than 2 days, and let them defrost in the cooler.
Overall - yes I really like the cooler. Strong enough for a 220 pound lugnut like myself to stand up on and scout the rapids if I need to.
