    Canyoneering Safety Video

Zion has added a Canyoneering Safety Video to their website.

    http://www.nps.gov/zion/photosmultim...ringsafety.htm

I thought the video was very well done and is worth watching. Most of it is stuff we already know, but its always nice to review.

    Specific mention of "Avoid Bolting".

No specifc mention of Helmets, but the tech canyoneers are all shown with helmets.

Or you can download the video here if you prefer:

I like that custom sunshade on Ray's helmet...

But, what's with all the Prusik backup's above the rappel device? I thought that went the way of the dodo?

    Nicely done video.

at the beginning there is a quick shot that looks like someone rapping weeping rock. Am I right?

Nah, I don't think so. Looks like the Grotto or Lodge Canyon to me, but could be any of several places. Echo would be harder to set up - I'm thinking it is one of the grotto-type places that one can hike around to the top of. There's a couple of them.

If it's Weeping Rock I figure it was stock footage from something else that was spliced in... A rescue maybe?

Lot's of water dripping... more than I've seen at Lodge or the Grotto, but than again, I seldom visit those places.... Both are a step down from Behunin... and we all know how much I love the waste of a good day some call Behunin...

The whole thing was well-'filmed', thus I doubt they used any footage they had lying around. and even that scene, brief as it is, is very well-exposed and pretty.

What canyons do folks recognize? I'm guessing they only set up in a couple of places.....

Nice video. I couldn't get the click through link to work, but the downloadable link was fine. Kind of interesting seeing SAR folk pretending to be tourists, but it was a good fast introduction to the sport.
