    Channel Catfish & Provo River

I want to catch Channel Catfish and have been told that the mouth of the Provo River is ideal.

If anyone has GPSr coordinates to a staging location, I'd be much appreciative.

I hit Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse today and stocked up on lures and Catfish bait (stink bait, etc).

    Thanks again.

    BUMP!

I'm heading out on Tuesday. I'm thinking of trying Yuba for Pike/Walleye and Channel Cat (if any are remaining).

Any advice on locations is appreciated.

I don't know much about catfish, but I know a lot of people who swear by their methods:

    1. Fish at night, preferably at the bottleneck of a boat harbor (Provo, Lindon, AF).

    2. Stinky bait is a must. Dead minnows are great, as are shrimp (raw) and chicken livers.

    3. Put it on the bottom and wait. Have it rigged so that the fish won't feel too much resistance when picking it up (Carolina rig...sliding weight).

That's all I can really help with on cats.

Yuba is a really tricky place to fish. You can cast all day for pike and never get a bump. I've only caught one (pg 6 of the '08 proc) and that was a total fluke. It took a weightless minnow by the Oasis boat ramp. Somehow I brought it in without cutting the mono.

Most people use a wire leader and cast big ugly lures for them.

Walleye are a mystery that are more often caught by mistake, than on purpose.

There may be a remnant population of cats in there, but don't hold your breath. Just like the rainbows, they're few and far between.

I hate to make Yuba sound like a negative place because I used to love it. It's just really different now.

Best of luck to you when you go. Take a camera and let us know how it goes.

Caught a ton of HUGE carp (including one that must have had its back broken at some point in life) - but nothing else. Water is quite well covered in algae.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the carp.

Totally infested, but they seem to keep the predators fed.

That one must have been clubbed 'to death' upon a prior catch and left to die in the water...

...Only problem is that carp are cockroaches with fins.

Well at least you didn't get skunked. Thanks for the report.
