    eastern sierra spring touring

thought i would post a few photos from a spring ski touring trip with 4 of my close buddies from california which i try to make when i can. we spent a few days in mid may in an area outside of bishop, ca in the easter sierra nevada known as south lake (not to be confused with south lake tahoe, of course). from the vicinity of the lake and up to the ridges is all part of john muir wilderness; from the ridges of the high peaks and to the southwest is kings canyon nat'l park. although we were 2 weeks past prime during a low snow year and soaring temps, the corn was decent and the terrain and views simply sublime. most photos were taken by jason metzler and jeff levy, though a couple by me and perhaps by jon and geoff with one of their cameras.

couple images from the google for location and perspective

Don't talk unless you can improve the silence.
The trout do not rise in the cemetery, so you better do your fishing while you are still alive. SGH

    Oh darlin' I second that!

It is all very intoxicating. From the smell left on your parka, to the quiet calm of inspecting your next run. Waking up in the morning... and before you even look outside, you know it dumped a couple feet. You know this just by the way the light in the room is different than any other morning. I don't know if the rest of you have noticed. But the leaves are changing and YES Winter is just around the corner.
